Seminal vesicle hypoplasia

Last revised by Daniel J Bell on 21 Dec 2020

Seminal vesicle hypoplasia is a congenital anomaly that refers to the underdevelopment of one or both seminal vesicles.

All mesonephric duct maldevelopments may be observed:

Patients may present with infertility, azoospermia and low‐volume ejaculate.

Seminal vesicles hypoplasia has been defined on ultrasound as 1:

  • seminal vesicle width <5 mm
  • seminal vesicle length <22.5 mm

Calcifications of the hypoplastic seminal vesicle may be seen.
