Clinical presentation
Patients often present slow progressive decline in pulmonary function in individuals affected with HbSS. Individuals usually have a preceding history of several events of acute chest syndrome of sickle cell disease.
Pathology
Established fibrotic lung changes from repeated episodes of pulmonary infective and micro-occlusive events.
Radiographic features
HRCT
May show interstitial changes with septal thickening, wedge opacities, and traction bronchiectasis.
