Sonographic halo sign can be useful in a number of situations:

hypoechoic halo sign (also known as target or bull's eye sign) in liver metastases: used in hepatobiliary imaging, is a concerning feature for malignant lesion if the lesion is a hyperechoic liver lesion ^1,2
ultrasound halo in angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (ALHE): used when interpreting the temporal artery ³
periluminal hypoechogenic halo in giant cell arteritis (temporal arteritis): used when interpreting the superficial temporal artery, reflective of arterial wall oedema ⁴
- the same sign has also been described in interpreting the vertebral artery in giant cell arteritis ⁵
