Summary
origin: 1st costochondral joint
insertion: subclavian groove on the inferior aspect of the middle third of the clavicle
innervation: nerve to subclavius (from nerve roots C5-C6)
arterial supply: clavicular branch of the thoracoacromial artery and the suprascapular artery
-
action: depresses clavicle
an additional function is to protect the brachial plexus and subclavian vessels from injury should the clavicle fracture
Variant anatomy
