The superior adrenal (suprarenal) arteries are a group of arteries that together form one of the three adrenal arteries that supply the adrenal gland. There are usually numerous small arteries arising from the inferior phrenic artery.
Gross anatomy
Origin
The superior suprarenal arteries arise from the inferior phrenic artery.
Location
The superior suprarenal arteries branch off the inferior phrenic artery as it ascends over the diaphragmatic crura to the undersurface of the diaphragm.
Termination
Each superior suprarenal artery provides multiple small branches to the superior portion of the gland.
Variant anatomy
The number of superior suprarenal arteries varies considerably.
