Transient elastography

Transient elastography most often refers to a type of elastography which relies on a mechanical pulse generated by an external probe.

The principle is similar to shear wave elastography, in that the elastic modulus is generated from shear wave velocity, but the application of the pulse from an external probe is different than calculations of the liver stiffness from an ultrasound pulse, an "acoustic radiation force impulse" (ARFI).
