Triangular space of cruciate ligaments

Last revised by Aditya Shetty on 6 Sep 2015

Triangular space of cruciate ligaments (TSC) is defined as the potential extrasynovial space between anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments of the knee joint.

Gross anatomy

Boundaries
  • anteriorly: anterior cruciate ligament
  • posteriorly: posterior cruciate ligament
  • inferiorly: tibial plateau

The synovial reflections divide the knee joint into medial and lateral compartments that are continuous anteriorly (anterior to the anterior cruciate ligament). The synovial membrane does not line the posterior surface of the posterior cruciate ligament.
