Tunica vaginalis testis mesothelioma

Tunica vaginalis testis mesothelioma refers to mesothelioma arising from the tunica vaginalis. 

Malignant mesothelioma originating from the tunica vaginalis is extremely rare. 

Patients usually present with enlarging or recurrent hydrocele, or less frequently, scrotal mass.

Although the exact pathophysiology is unclear, exposure to asbestos and long-standing hydrocele are considered risk factors of malignant mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis. A history of asbestos exposure is present in <50% of patients 7.

  • it can present as single or multiple paratesticular masses, diffuse disease, or as papillary excrescences on the inner surface of a hydrocoele
