Tunica vaginalis testis mesothelioma

Tunica vaginalis testis mesothelioma refers to mesothelioma arising from the tunica vaginalis. 

Epidemiology

Malignant mesothelioma originating from the tunica vaginalis is extremely rare. 

Clinical presentation 

Patients usually present with enlarging or recurrent hydrocele, or less frequently, scrotal mass and inguinal hernia ⁸.

Pathology

Associations

Although the exact pathophysiology is unclear, exposure to asbestos and long-standing hydrocele are considered risk factors for malignant mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis. A history of asbestos exposure is present in <50% of patients ⁷.

Radiographic features

• it can present as single or multiple paratesticular masses, diffuse disease, or as papillary excrescences on the inner surface of a hydrocele
