Type II proatlantal artery

The type II proatlantal artery is distinguished from type I on the grounds that it originates from the external carotid artery rather than the internal carotid artery.

It is a type of persistent carotid-vertebrobasilar anastomoses. Both join the vertebral artery via the foramen magnum.
