Umbilical cord prolapse

Umbilical cord prolapse is a situation where the umbilical cord protrudes into the cervical canal.

May show herniation of the umbilical cord into the cervical canal/lower uterine segment 10. Color Doppler is useful at confirmation 13

A cord prolapse is an obstetric emergency that in a viable fetus necessitates an expeditious delivery 7,12. Energetic intrapartum monitoring is often recommended in order that patients with occult prolapse or presentation of the umbilical cord be diagnosed early and treated promptly.
