Upper and lower lobe distribution of bilateral pulmonary pathologies (mnemonic)

Many pulmonary disease are described as upper or lower lobe predominant. The following mnemonics can aid recall of these differential diagnosis. 

  • upper lobe or apical predominance: SET CAP 
  • lower lobe or bibasilar predominance: BAD RASH
