Uterine perforation

Uterine perforation represents a serious complication that can occur as a result of any type of intrauterine procedure or implantation. Some authors use the term uterine rupture synonymously with the term uterine perforation.

Pathology

Causes
  • IUCD insertion: IUCD related uterine perforation
  • hysteroscopic surgery
    • trancervical resection of the endometrium (TCRE) 2
  • from devices related to intra cavitatory radiotherapy -brachytherapy, e.g. for treatment of cervical carcinoma 1
  • advanced uterine or cervical malignancy 5
