Vitamin B7

Dr Daniel J Bell and Dr Craig Hacking et al.

Vitamin B7 (biotin) is a water-soluble vitamin that is a coenzyme for many reactions, including gluconeogenesis and the synthesis of fatty acids and amino acids.

Biotin deficiency is caused by dietary insufficiency, pharmacological interactions and, possibly, increased biotinolysis in smokers and pregnancy 2.

Interestingly, it was formerly known as vitamin H and coenzyme R.
