Von Brunn nests of the bladder

Last revised by Bruno Di Muzio on 20 Mar 2023

Von Brunn nests are non-neoplastic reactive urothelial lesions that occur in the bladder. They represent clusters of urothelial cells found in the superficial lamina propria resulting from the invagination of the superficial urothelium.

Histologically, those nests generally show uniform size and shape, with no cytologic atypia. When cells atypia or irregularity in nest shape and size are present, it suggests nested variant of urothelial carcinoma.
