Ward triangle

Last revised by Daniel J Bell on 28 Jul 2022

Ward triangle refers to a radiolucent area between principal compressive, secondary compressive and primary tensile trabeculae in the neck of femur.

It should be differentiated from Babcock triangle.

History and etymology

Named for Frederick Oldfield Ward after his original description of the region in 1838. Interestingly Ward also described, in the same monograph, the region now called Babcock's triangle 1.
