Watchman device

Watchman device is a permanent left atrial appendage closure device, which is percutaneously implanted to prevent embolisation of thrombus from the appendage into systemic circulation in cases atrial fibrillation. It is used when there is contraindication to anticoagulation or high risk of lifelong use of anticoagulants.

Radiographic features

An implanted Watchman device will be seen within the left atrial appendage and on post-contrast cross sectional imaging will show non-opacification of the left atrial appendage.
