Wirsungocele

Wirsungocele refers to a cystic dilatation of the pancreatic duct of Wirsung, which is the portion of ventral duct between the dorsal-ventral junction and major duodenal papilla. It is believed to be analogous to a choledochocele and santorinicele.

Clinical presentation

It may be an incidental finding or associated with chronic abdominal pain and recurrent acute pancreatitis.

Treatment and prognosis

Endoscopic bilio-pancreatic sphincterotomy and balloon dilatation have resulted in a positive prognosis 4.

History and etymology

Wirsungocele was first described in 2004 by Gupta et al.
