Wirsungocoele refers to a cystic dilatation of the pancreatic duct of Wirsung which is the portion of ventral duct between the dorsal-ventral junction and major duodenal papilla. It is believed to be analogous to choledochocoele (type III choledochal cyst under Todani classification system) and santorinicoele.

It may be an incidental finding or associated with abdominal pain and recurrent acute pancreatitis.

History and etymology

It was first described in 2004 by Gupta et al.
