Presentation
Palpable abdominal mass on physical exam.
Patient Data
Large, well defined, solid cystic hetero enhancing abdominal mass in close contact with the stomach and the pancreas most likely originated from the gastric body. The mass displaces bowel loops, and there is no sign of local invasion or vascular encasement.
A few stones in the gallbladder.
Case Discussion
The patient underwent abdominal mass resection, and histopathology findings confirmed gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) with malignant transformation.
It is difficult to differentiate a benign from a malignant GIST radiologically, but exogastric growth, diameter >5 cm, central necrosis, and extension to other organs could suggest malignant transformation.
