Os subtibiale

Presentation

Left ankle pain. History of ankle twisting one day ago.

Patient Data

Age: 8 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

No bone fracture or dislocation is seen. A small well-corticated bone fragment is noted adjacent to the medial malleolus which is likely an os subtibiale.

Case Discussion

Os subtibiale is an uncommon accessory ossicle, discovered as an incidental finding and should not be confused with a fracture in the trauma setting.
