Presentation
Colicky abdominal pain associated with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea for past two weeks. History of anorexia and 30-Kg weight loss over the last 4 months.
Patient Data
Bowel-related persistent lesion in the right paraumbilical region, with swirled pattern of alternating hyper- and hypoechogenicities (target sign), suggestive of intussusception..
Circumferential irregular mural thickening of the colon, associated with colocolic intussusception involving the proximal transverse colon. Mild fat stranding and a few small subcentimeter locoregional lymph nodes around it. No bowel obstruction, pneumoperitoneum or distant metastases noted.
Colonoscopy showed colocolic intussusception with congested friable mucosa near the hepatic flexure. Multiple biopsies taken.
Histopathology reports
Histopathology report of both the colonoscopic biopsy as well as the hemicolectomy specimen showed mucinous carcinoma of the colon.
Case Discussion
Following colonoscopy and biopsy, the patient underwent laparoscopic right hemicolectomy. Later on, the patient was referred to the medical oncologist for further management.
