Presentation

Blunt trauma to left lower anterior chest wall, a few days ago.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

No displaced rib fracture. No pleural effusion/pneumothorax/ surgical emphysema.

ultrasound

Displaced fractures of left 7th and 8th costal cartilages. Medial fractured fragments show anterior displacement. There was no effusion in the left pleural space.

Case Discussion

The patient presented with post-traumatic left chest wall pain while coughing, sneezing, and deep breathing. The radiograph is negative for a rib fracture. The ultrasound shows costal cartilage fractures.
