There is thickening and increased signal of the proximal patellar tendon at its patellar attachment. This is associated with marrow edema of the inferior patellar pole as well as inflammatory changes in the subjacent Hoffa's fat pad.

MRI findings are consistent with jumper's knee.
Jumper's knee or patellar tendinosis is one of the most common tendon abnormalities in active athletes, commonly basketball and volleyball.
It results from repeated traction and overload of the extensor mechanism.
