3 months history of pelvic pain. Reported history of single congenital kidney.
Patient Data
Transabdominal ultrasound study. The uterus is anteverted with a duplicate configuration of the fundus and corpus. The endometrium and myometrium appears uniform. The cervix is not well visualized, but two definitely separate cervixes is not confirmed.
Case Discussion
This transabdominal ultrasound study demonstrates the typical appearance of a bicornuate uterus. Although not very well visualized, two cervixes were not definitely seen, which would otherwise point to uterine didelphys. 3D ultrasound is typically better at characterizing uterine duplication anomalies compared to 2D ultrasound as is seen here. There is a strong association with Mullerian duct anomalies with renal tract anomalies, including single congenital kidney as highlighted in this case. Most cases of bicornuate uterus are asymptomatic with symptomatic cases usually presenting with early pregnancy loss. The patient's pelvic pain is unlikely related to the finding of a bicornuate uterus.
