History of injury to right thumb due to fall at the workplace, yesterday Clinical examination: no open wound, tenderness on right thumb metacarpal.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

Right first metacarpal, epibasal displaced fracture is noted.

Soft tissue swelling is noted

Case Discussion

This case shows an epibasal thumb fracture, which is an extra-articular fracture of the thumb metacarpal, usually referred to as pseudo-Bennett fractures.

True Bennett fractures have an intra-articular extension.
