MR images show an avulsed bone fragment arising from the posterior tibial plateau with an intact PCL. There’s also joint effusion with contusion of the anterior prepatellar soft tissues. The anterior cruciate ligament, collateral ligament and menisci are normal.
Case Discussion
The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is an important stabilizer of the knee. Isolated rupture of the PCL is more common as an avulsion to its tibial insertion. Lesions of the femoral origin or as lesions of the midsubstance are less frequent.
