Presentation

Recent patella dislocation ? retinacular tear.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female

Lateral patellar dislocation and bone marrow edema at the medial patellar facet and lateral femoral condyle.

Partial tear of the medial patellar retinacular / medial patellofemoral-tibial ligament. Some high signal within the inferomedial portion of the patellar cartilage, but no definite osteochondral defect.  There is also a small microtrabecular fracture non-articular portion of the medial femoral condyle. Medial meniscal contusion but no tear. Background patella alta and trochlear dysplasia. 

Case Discussion

Features of recent patellar dislocation with knee joint effusion and "kissing contusions" involving the inferomedial portion of the patella and the lateral femoral condyle.
