Presentation

Intense acute left iliac fossa pain.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

ultrasound

Persistent echogenic fat seen in the left iliac fossa at the site of maximum probe tenderness.

ct

Fat stranding is seen adjacent to descending colon with a fatty locule seen with surrounding hyperdense rim. Oblique MPR reveals the characteristic central hyperdense dot.

Case Discussion

This case illustrates the typical findings of epiploic appendagitis. The fat stranding is closely opposed to the colonic wall with no evidence of diverticula. Further, there is no adjacent bowel thickening.
