Splenic infarction

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Clinical history of left upper quadrant abdominal pain for 15 days. Pain started when he was at high altitude (Himalayas).

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Spleen is mildly enlarged in size - 13.5 cm long axis. No calcification is noted.

Most of the splenic parenchyma shows heterogeneous echopattern without vascularity.

Few islands of normal parenchyma are noted with preserved vascularity.

Subcapular cystic area with irregular wall (45 x 45 x 33 mm) is noted at upper pole.

No thrombosis is noted in splenic vein or artery.
