Presentation

Wounded by a firearm aimed at thorax

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Entry wound was found at the level of fourth left intercostal space, without an exit wound.  The patient subsequently presented with signs of ischemia in his right lower limb. 

Intraoperative angiography shows the head of the projectile embolized to the right iliac artery.  

Case Discussion

Embolization of bullet fragments to body regions distant to its initial trajectory is an uncommon, but well documented complication of gunshot injuries.
