Case contributed by Bruno Di Muzio
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Jaundice and pain in the right hypochondrium.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

US of the abdomen

ultrasound

These images show marked intra and extrahepatic biliary tree dilatation. Unfortunately, overlaying gas precluded the assessment of the distal common biliary duct and pancreatic head.

Case Discussion

ERCP (images not available) confirmed a distal common bile duct stone as the cause of the biliary tree obstruction.

This case is illustrative of the appearances of the biliary tree dilatation on ultrasound.
