What substances are of high signal intensity on T1?
Fat, protein, paramagnetic material (gadolinium, mucinous metastases, melanoma), calcification, turbulent flow, methaemoglobin
What is the location of the lesion in relation to the dura and cord?
It is intradural and extramedullary.
There is a high T1 lesion, anterior to the cord, at the T2/3 level. This is associated with a thin syrinx just above the lesion. A number of vertebral segmentation anomalies, with associated scoliosis, are also seen at the level of the lesion.
