Fall from standing height with head trauma

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Female

Right longitudinal fracture of the occipital bone, no misalignment of the bone plates.

In both faces of fractured bone, there is an acute haematoma, an epidural and a subgaleal one.

Subarachnoid haemorrhage is also noted extending through the tentorium and over the left frontal pole (contrecoup injury).

Case Discussion

An extradural haematoma is a collection of blood which forms between the inner surface of the skull and outer layer of dura.

subgaleal haematoma describes bleeding in the potential space between the periosteum and the galea aponeurosis.
