Patient Data
There is a irregular intra-axial lesion with ill defined border locate on right parietal lobe. The lesion is heterogeneous in nature & showing low T1 signal with high T2 signal. The lesion is not enhanced by the contrast.
The is no diffuse restriction on DWI signal. There is a increase signal on ADC suggestive of previous infarction.
There is no evidence of edema nor mass effect.
Case Discussion
The patient went on to have biopsy of the tumor
Histology
Microscopic Description: Sections show small pieces of brain tissue infiltrated by a moderately cellular glial tumor displaying oligodendroglial characteristics. Histologic features associated with high-grade, such as tumor necrosis, vascular neogenesis, or elevated mitotic activity, are not seen, although these fragments are very small.
Final Diagnosis: Oligodendroglioma.
Note: This case predates the recent (2016) revision WHO classification of CNS tumors, and thus molecular markers (IDH mutation and 1p19q co-deletion) are not available. As such, this tumor would now be classified as an oligodendroglioma NOS.
