The lungs are hyperinflated with relative hyperlucency of the lower zones.

The lungs are hyperinflated.

There is hyperlucency of the lower zones, relative to the upper zones. 

This distribution is suggestive of alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency related lung disease.

Case Discussion

The diagnosis of alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency was confirmed in this patient after blood tests revealed low serum alpha-1-antitrypsin levels.
