Presentation
Young adult with a large right sided jaw swelling. The patient attends OMF clinic.
Patient Data
Large lucent expansile right mandibular cyst involving the body, ramus and inferior mandibular condyle.
Extensive cortical thinning and breech on both the lingual and buccal surfaces.
3D reconstructions to aid the surgeon and to assist in consenting the patient for surgery.
Stereolithographic models producing from the CT data set to aid surgical planning
1:1 stereolithographic models producing by highly skilled technicians.
Compare with the CT images, so see the accuracy of the models and who invaluable the combined approach is for surgical planning.
Case Discussion
Keratocystic odontic tumors (Odontogenic keratocysts) usually present in younger patients (2nd-3rd decades) and may be present in either the body or ramus of the mandible.
They are one form of lucent mandibular lesion. Typically expansile, cortical thinning and breech is common. As the name implies the cyst is associated with un-erupted dentition.
Surgery is usually indicated with a hemi-mandiblectomy with fibula graft/tray a common approach.
Stereolithographic modelling is undertaken in many centers prior to surgery.
