Radiation change around astrocytoma

Case contributed by Frank Gaillard
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Resection and irradiation 8 years ago of a low grade astrocytoma.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

Stable left temporal resection cavity, containing blood products. Numerous SWI focal punctate regions of signal loss are in keeping with previous regional radiotherapy.

Case Discussion

SWI is far more sensitive with the effects of radiotherapy and in this case the field irradiated can be visualized due to the development of microhemorrhages.
