Presentation
Previous radius fracture. Now presenting with wrist pain.
Patient Data
There is 2 mm of positive ulnar variance. Cystic changes and increased fluid-sensitive signal is noted within the proximal medial lunate. There is a large central defect within the triangular fibrocartilaginous disc.
There is a deformity of the distal radius with volar angulation secondary to the previous trauma. Radiocarpal joint space narrowing with cystic degenerative changes are noted at the distal radius and scaphoid. There are mild degenerative changes noted at the first carpometacarpal joint.
Case Discussion
These findings are consistent with ulnar impaction syndrome, in this case likely secondary to deformity and/or shortening of the radius from a previous fracture.
