The common and internal carotid arteries ascend more medially than is usual and almost meet in the midline (kissing carotids). This causes apparent thickening of the prevertebral soft-tissues which could be misinterpreted by some readers as hematoma
Case Discussion
Kissing carotids causing apparent thickening of the pre-vertebral soft-tissues which could be easily misinterpreted as prevertebral hematoma. No acute traumatic injury was identified.
