What is the difference between the Puestow procedure and the Frey procedure?
The two procedures are similar in that an afferent blind-ending loop of jejunum is brought up to a surgically "released" main pancreatic duct, creating a side-to-side pancreaticojejunostomy. The Frey procedure additionally "cores out" portions of fibrotic pancreatic head which were contributing to pancreatic duct strictures.
Axial and sagittal annotated images show the afferent loop of jejunum (red arrow) meeting up with the incised pancreas (yellow arrow).
