MRI images of an aneurysmal or expansile well-defined osteolytic bone lesion in the humerus with distal fracture.
The T2-weighted MR-image shows the fluid content and on the T1-weighted image there is a subtle fluid-fluid levels.
Case Discussion
Aneurysmal bone cysts can occur almost anywhere in the skeleton. They appear as a solitary expansile well-defined osteolytic bone lesion filled with blood. The underlying pathology is thought to be a reactive process secondary to trauma or increased venous pressure. Sometimes an underlying lesion like giant cell tumor, osteoblastoma, or chondroblastoma can be found.
