Facial fractures (Le Fort type II)

Patient Data

Age: Adult
Gender: Male

Multiple facial bone fractures including:

  • bilateral
    • inferior orbital wall with extension through the infraorbital foramen
    • herniation of intraorbital fat into the maxillary sinus but no muscle entrapment 
    • lateral maxillary wall
    • medial and lateral pterygoid plates with bony fragments within the pterygomaxillary fissures
    • nasal bone fractures with bony nasal septum deviation to the right
    • irregularity of the anterior sphenoid sinus walls suggestive of fractures.
  • right side
    • posteromedial right maxillary wall
  • left side
    • lateral maxillary wall
    • medial left orbital wall

Subgaleal hematoma overlying the left cerebral convexity.

No intra or extraaxial collection, mass or focal abnormality identified. Ventricles and basal cisterns are unremarkable. 

Case Discussion

Findings are typical of a Le Fort type II fracture.
