Presentation
A 7 year old male child presented with recurrent abdominal pain.
Patient Data
Ultrasound of the lower abdomen shows multicystic peritoneal mass with low level internal echoes. No calcifications or detached membranes were seen. The cysts surrounded a small bowel loop.
Gross pathology specimen showing resected segment of small bowel with multiple mesenteric cysts. Histopathology revealed lymphangioma.
Case Discussion
This given case was proven to be mesenteric lymphangioma.
An uncommon but important differential is peritoneal hydatidosis.
Other differential diagnoses of the omental and mesenteric cysts consist of congenital duplication of the bowel, intra-abdominal abscesses, ovarian masses such as cysts and teratomas, pancreatic and retroperitoneal cystic tumors1.
