A 6 year old male, known and operated case of primary peritoneal hydatid disease presented for follow up scan.
Patient Data
Ultrasound of the abdomen shows multiple variable sized cystic lesions with low level internal echoes within the peritoneal cavity.
Liver and spleen show no focal lesion.
Case Discussion
Primary peritoneal hydatidosis is a rare entity. The presented patient had undergone surgery for the same, 6 months prior to the ultrasound. There was intraoperative rupture of a few cysts with spillage of the hydatid fluid within the peritoneum.
Present scan is suggestive of recurrent peritoneal hydatidosis.
In absence of history and positive hydatid serology this particular lesion is difficult to differentiate from a lymphangioma on ultrasound.
