Case Discussion

Hydatid cysts result from infection by Echinococcus, and can result in cyst formation anywhere in the body. Humans are accidental host and the infection occurs by ingesting food contaminated with Echinococcus eggs.

Splenic hydatid infection is a rare form of hydatid disease, and isolated splenic involvement is even less common. They are usually asymptomatic.
