Case contributed by Derek Smith

Presentation

Sore right thumb after falling off bicycle. No obvious deformity. Normal movement for patient.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

Radiograph of right thumb(s).

Pre-axial polydactyly from shared metacarpal. Fracture to neck of "radial" digit's proximal phalanx.

No lateral views taken.

Case Discussion

This patient had sustained a fracture to one of his right thumbs.

The polydactyly is the only known anatomical variant this patient had and was an incidental finding.

Given the complex underlying anatomy, the fracture was managed by the orthopedic surgeons for follow up.
