Presentation
Chronic right hip pain (for years). Also recent left hip pain. No specific treatment including no previous surgery.
Patient Data
Coxa vara with sclerosis through the right femoral neck but no full-thickness fracture line nor avascular necrosis of the femoral head. Minor sclerosis in the left femoral neck in keeping with early stress reaction. Bones are generally demineralized.
Case Discussion
Stress or insufficiency fractures of the femoral neck are not common but important as they can lead to full-thickness fracture causing significant pain and risk of avascular necrosis. They generally do not unite spontaneously thus the usual course of action is surgical intervention. In this case, the stress fracture has become complete and then united in varus.
