Presentation

Nonspecific abdominal pain. No history of reflux or esophageal pathology.

Patient Data

Age: 50-60 years
Gender: Male

Single and double contrast

Barium

Single and double contrast views of the normal phrenic ampulla (esophageal vestibule).

There are a few gas bubbles in the distal esophagus in the double contrast view.

Case Discussion

The phrenic ampulla is bordered by the A-ring and B-ring of the distal esophagus. It is a normal finding that is more prominent in some patients than in others.
