Failed renal transplants

Case contributed by Jayanth Keshavamurthy
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Radiographs performed for pre-transplant evaluation.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Irregular amorphous calcific densities overlying the left and right iliac fossa, consistent with known failed prior renal transplants.

Case Discussion

Failed renal transplants may develop dystrophic calcifications and although amorphous calcifications in the pelvis would generally warrant a differential, the typical location and the (hopefully) available clinical history should help point you in the right direction.
